The new University of Adelaide has officially started. With the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia have finally “tied the knot”, Australia has welcomed a brand new higher education institution – Adelaide University (AU), whose abbreviation is the same as the Australian logo.

AU was formed by the merger of the University of Adelaide (ranked 82nd in the world) and the University of South Australia (ranked 340th in the world), marking the arrival of Australia’s newest university with 400,000 alumni, named the University of Adelaide.
Low score admission, pathway to success
Students with low GPA and poor background can first choose to apply to the University of South Australia, which is ranked 340th. After graduation, they can obtain a degree certification ranked in the top 100 or even top 50!

It is expected that AU will be on par with the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Melbourne, University of Queensland and Australian National University in terms of strength, reputation, funding and academic achievements. This marks a major development in Australia’s education sector and puts the University of Adelaide on the international stage.
From 2026, AU will begin to recruit international students and is expected to gain a foothold in Australia’s higher education sector, reaching the top five or six.

AU will offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes all the major disciplines currently offered in both schools. There will be more than 19 professional fields for students to explore, covering accounting, business and economics, animal and veterinary sciences, media, information technology, engineering, education, nursing, etc. More professional fields and degrees will be introduced in the future, such as Aboriginal languages, allied health, agriculture, creative arts, law, music, midwifery and oral health.

03 – Australian University has a promising future

By working in partnership with the community, AU will conduct large-scale, focused research to further promote innovation and economic development, and integrate industry and research-oriented learning into all degrees while providing a rich learning experience.
The forecast model shows that AU’s activities will contribute approximately A$4.7 billion to the Australian economy each year. Currently, the University of Adelaide is ranked 89th in the QS World University Rankings, while the University of South Australia is ranked 326th.
